"Vacation All I Ever Wanted"

Today I decided to take a day off from work and go see my counselor about the limbo I'm in about the University of Arizona. Today was a nice day. Taking this day off means that I got to avoid the inspectors that want to see all the ridiculous documentation that I was supposed to do but didn't. After meeting with my counselor without any incident, I decided to spend the few centavos I have until payday on lunch and spend the day gawking about fourth avenue. I even had some tea at a trendy cafe feeling very hip and catching up on my reading until some jackass came and ruined the vibe by stankin' up the place with metaphors and magical realism. You know the type that I'm talking about; the kind of person that apparently knows everything about literature and philosophy but apparently can't use any of his so-called intellegence to get a job. But this has been one very good day, too bad it wasn't a paid one.

"Get off the Internet I'll See You In the Streets"

This week, and this weekend in particular, have been a whirlwind. On the family front, things are looking optimistic my uncle is getting clearance for surgery and is going to meet with the surgeon next week. He's already been given clearance for surgery from the heart doctor. Today he meets with the lung specialist to determine if his lungs are strong enough. I'm hoping that the surgeon can pencil him in soon. On the University front, I met with my advisor on Friday and she recommended that I take one more class at Pima in the spring semester and then start at the Uni in Summer. It was kind of dissapointing that I still have to take one more class there when I thought that this would be the last semester there, but its all right. You just cant rush these things I guess. On Saturday it was Outoberfest, the Tucson Pride festival, which is one of my favorite gay activities that takes place here. I volunteered to help out Tucson Pride Inc., a local organization that puts together the festival. What's really cool about it is that the time I spent volunteering is transfered into money that goes to help non-profit GLBT organizations. It was a lot of fun and there were gaggles (is that the correct term?) of lesbians there to check out. The festival ended with a drag show and I then walked home laden with more stuff than when I arrived (mostly flyers, condoms and lube, and the typical free-giveaway goodies) to change and roll it with the homies. Sunday I went to the Pride Parade that they held downtown. I volunteered to hold the rainbow flag with TIHAN(Tucson Interfaith HIV Network) which can be found at www.tihan.org. We started on the corner of Stone and then walked down to Fourth Ave. There were lots of people that had no idea about a parade, but were really supportive and threw money onto the flag, as is custom. This weekend has really encouraged me to become more aware of what is going on in the gay community and I'm planning on becoming more involved since I'll have more time on my hands next semester. ~Riot don't Diet!
